Workshop for Handmade Goods — Cairo, Egypt

Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy and A&K Egypt have come together to support an initiative in the Misr el-Kadeema district of Cairo to empower young girls and women who are among the most disenfranchised in the community. In the center's Workshop for Handmade Goods, impoverished women and girls in the local community receive training in the production of high quality "Made in Egypt" products, including leather bags, women's accessories, scarves and bed linens. The workshop is also a permanent outlet to sell the products. The project seeks to create new markets both within Egypt and internationally for the goods produced.

Visitors to the workshop meet the young girls and women who are improving their lives, both economically and socially, through the training program, and have the opportunity to see and purchase the quality goods that are being produced.
