Providing safe water in Tanzania

Everyone deserves access to clean water, a basic human need. Since 2017, AKP has partnered with LifeStraw to provide safe water, which solves a major health crisis and helps ensure children can attend school.
The focus is on schools that border protected areas. The first phase of the program introduced sustainable, non-invasive means to acquire clean water for students in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya. Since then, the Safe Water for Schools Initiative has expanded to India, Tanzania and Vietnam.
In 2019, the program expanded to Tanzania. AKP has installed filters in 29 schools in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, providing clean drinking water to 17,603 students. In July, filters will be set up in nearly 40 more schools in the North Serengeti, benefiting more than 26,000 students.
