MAASAI MARA COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Keeping children fed — and learning — at Enkereri school.

EDUCATION
HEALTH

A healthy school lunch is something that many people take for granted. But in huge parts of the Maasai Mara, children were travelling many miles to school, often on empty stomachs and often without anything nourishing to eat during the day.

We know that children cannot learn and thrive without good nutrition (and safe water) and so at Enkereri school, 40 minutes’ drive from Olonana Sanctuary, every child now receives a healthy lunch. This means over 300 pupils receive a meal each day and four staff are employed to support with preparation and serving.

GET INVOLVED
Guests staying at Olonana Sanctuary can visit the school during lunch hour to join the school chefs in preparing food and participate in serving children their lunch. During this visit, it’s also possible to see how LifeStraw water filters work and their impact on the students.
