PROJECT SHAKTI, PRINCESS DIYA KUMARI FOUNDATION
The beauty of Rajasthan and its Pink City of Jaipur belies the poverty many of the region’s families struggle with day in and day out. While the tech and tourism industries have afforded new opportunities to some, cultural, social and economic barriers have largely excluded women and girls.
To address this disparity, AKP partnered with the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (PDKF) in 2023 to launch Project Shakti, a vocational training program serving the region’s women and girls. Project Shakti offers free certified courses in sewing, cosmetology and computer science, each lasting 45 days. The program also provides a safe physical space in which to learn, as well as job placement assistance after graduation.
In its first year, Project Shakti helped more than 100 Rajasthani women and girls hone valuable vocational skills, helping to build the foundations for a better life. Looking forward, AKP plans to continue its partnership with the PDKF to grow Project Shakti and broaden its course offerings, affording more opportunities for a brighter tomorrow.
